Project Overview
The "Institutional Water Storage" project, executed by Conyx Tanks in partnership with the client, involved the comprehensive supply and installation of a bespoke sectional GRP water storage system in the Greater Accra Region.
Given the client's operational demands, ensuring a reliable backup water supply was paramount to mitigating the impact of municipal water interruptions. Our team designed a modular, high-capacity tank that maximizes storage volume while minimizing the spatial footprint.
Scope of Work
1. Site Survey & Design: Conducted a structural survey of the installation site to determine load-bearing requirements and logistical access. We engineered a sectional panel design that allows for easy assembly on-site, bypassing the need for heavy lifting equipment or major construction modifications.
2. Manufacturing & Supply: Supplied premium-grade GRP panels manufactured in accordance with BS EN 13280 standards. The panels are treated with a food-grade, antimicrobial inner lining to prevent algae growth and ensure water potability, alongside an exterior UV-resistant coating to withstand Ghana's harsh climatic conditions.
3. Installation: Managed the full turnkey installation, including the assembly of the tank panels, sealing with high-grade silicone gaskets, fitting of inlet/outlet pipework, and integration with the existing pumping infrastructure.
4. Testing & Handover: Conducted a rigorous 24-hour hydrostatic fill test to check for leaks and structural integrity under full load. We provided on-site training to the client's maintenance team regarding tank upkeep and sanitation procedures.
Why GRP?
The GRP solution was chosen over traditional concrete or steel alternatives due to its lightweight properties, superior corrosion resistance (impervious to rust), and low lifecycle maintenance costs—ensuring the institution benefits from a sanitary and sustainable water reserve for decades.
Outcome
Storage Capacity: Delivered a 50,000-liter water storage capacity, ensuring a 48-hour emergency supply buffer for institutional operations.
Water Quality: Achieved zero contamination risk via anti-bacterial GRP lining, ensuring water meets WHO potable standards.
Durability: Successfully installed a corrosion-proof system rated for a +30-year lifespan with minimal maintenance requirements.
Operational Continuity: Eliminated downtime caused by municipal water outages, allowing the client to maintain full operational capacity.
Turnkey Success: Project completed and handed over within the stipulated 3-week timeline without any safety incidents.
