What export buyers actually check when they buy Ghanaian ginger

Moisture, foreign matter, consistency and traceability. The four checks that decide whether a consignment clears or is discounted.

Ghanaian ginger has a strong flavour profile and a good reputation. Consignments still get discounted, and the reasons are consistent.

Moisture

Under-drying is the single most common cause of rejection. Controlled drying to the contracted moisture level protects the buyer against mould and protects the seller against a claim.

Foreign matter

Soil, stones and plant debris are avoidable with disciplined cleaning and sorting at aggregation.

Consistency

Buyers price against a grade. Mixed sizes and colours in the same bag force the buyer to price against the worst of it.

Traceability

Increasingly, buyers want to know which communities the product came from and how it was handled. A documented aggregation chain is now a commercial asset.
